Birthday dinner

This year I decided to go for a small party with an elaborate menu, rather than an elaborate party with a small menu.
Final result:
  • Welcome drink: Coconut milk lassi with lime
  • Amuse-bouche: Salmon roll with Philadelphia cheese
  • Hors d'œuvre: Seafood toast with crayfish, prawns and roe
  • Entremet: Green pea soup with chèvre and crème fraîche
  • Salad: Spinach, apples, walnuts, cranberries and cherry tomatoes; quiche with roast sweet peppers, onion and fresh mozarella
  • Main course: Risotto with porcini and chanterelles
  • Cheese: Västerbottensost (Sweden, 14 months, hard, cow milk), El Pastor Iberico (Spain, 3 months, semi-hard, cow/sheep/goat milk), Chèvre Gouda (Netherlands, hard, goat milk), Ambrosi Taleggio (Italy, soft, cow milk) and fig compote
  • Dessert: Xanté ice-cream with lemon marinated boysenberries
  • Petits fours: Lemon knäck, chocolate truffles with amaretto flavour
Beverages:
  • White wine: Lautaro (Sauvignon Blanc, Chile, 2010, Fair trade)
  • Red wine: Étnico (Merlot Syrah Cabernet Franc, Chile, 2010, Organic)
  • Cider: Cidre Fermier Biologique (France, Organic)
  • Beer: Ridgeway of Oxfordshire IPA (England)
  • Non-alcoholic: Van Nahmen rhubarb nectar (Germany); Pineapple juice (Switzerland, Organic), Bon aqua lemon/lime sparkling water (Finland); Kevyt Olo cranberry sparkling water (Finland); Valio semi-skimmed milk (Finland, Organic); Icewater (Finland)

Notes: Sadly I have no photos of the welcome drink. Furthermore note that my kitchen is so small that I cannot set the table until I've finished cooking, which means that there was no opportunity to properly set the table and that I had little chance of properly decorating the food. Also, poor Jenni's chocolate truffel (in the last picture) is quite horribly deformed -- my kitchen is too warm for chocolate truffles...

Finally, a big thanks to Jenni for taking the photos since I was too busy with the food. Any flaws in the photos can only be blamed on me handing her my Nikon D7000 without giving her any instructions what so ever how it works...
